Bio
Tobias Bijl (1981) is a Dutch, Rotterdam-based photographer. After a study Philosophy at the Utrecht University, he graduated in 2017 at the Fotoacademie in Amsterdam. His work is focused on the transformation of society and environment as a result of historical events. In long-term projects, he investigates the collective memory in order to unravel underlying structures that can tell something universal about humanity. By experimenting and re-using existing images, he searches for a form that connects to the representation of the subject.
In 2017 he graduated with
Lost Takes,
which got awarded with several nominations and prizes including Best Debute at the Dutch Photobook Award, The Anamorphosis Prize (US), Best Dutch Book Design, Urbanautica Institute Awards (IT), The Prix de la Photographie (FR) and at the International Photography Festival Singapore. Currently he's working on his second project called
Buska.
